When She Sleeps (Demos)

by Kin & Company

Walking down the street, I pass a couple of kids jeering each other for something they did. The lighter skin uttered the words of his pa, myself and the darker left dropping our jaws. Then he took a swing and I moved along. Am I the devil walking around no care for my brothers chained to this town? Wardened by greed, then bond to the hood, Am I the devil if I do them no good? Days in the office, HR reports, forced to think quickly with clever retorts. To avoid the eyes of co-workers and friends, she's working harder, a degree in her hands, still praised for the object of all his demands. AM I the devil walking around no care for my sisters pinned to the ground, down on her knees, still cut in her wage, am I the devil because I looked away? With each confession, a new call to arms to cease wielding privilege that does others harm. For what is a man if he doesn't care? A tool for this devil, a coward and scared, or just too damn blind to grasp this affair of loving flesh and blood who share the same air or watch the same throne with the burdens they bear I am the devil if I do not care We play the devil if we act unaware You are the devil if you do not care
2.
She is the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. She is a summer breeze that's waving through my leaves. Like the warm embrace of family, she's the lullaby when my mind's alight, and the shivers are abducting my spine. She is the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. SHe is bright red lips and a whisper with a slight red lisp of a world that she's creating for me. She's another chance at this love-bound dance that I've failed at and thrown away. She is the reigning queen of all of my dreams. There is so much to her it stretches me beyond belief. With little glances, little looks, these little kisses have got me melting she's far more deserving than me. The way she gives, she counts her blessings, how she's living, yet she's still hanging out here with me.

When she sleeps the sun goes down All I can do is walk the streets of this lonesome town My mind wanders to be with her in the clouds and under the covers. When she sleeps the sun goes down and I'm left to haunt her like a ghost in this vacant town "I want so bad to be where you are, underneath your canopy of stars" I'll make my home in this empty bar scribble notes, the pieces of my heart pray that dusk doesn't take her too far when she sleeps, my world goes dark When she sleeps the sun goes down just wait for dawn cause it will bring her around draining ink from the fountain of this pen my poems sending me back to her again. I'll make my home in this empty bar scribble notes, the pieces of my heart pray that dusk doesn't take her too far when she sleeps, my world goes dark
